At Locus, our energy financing work is guided by a simple question: how can our capital promote energy efficiency, energy affordability, and community resilience? Our partnership with Plankton Energy is one answer.

When we connected with Plankton Energy, they had a clear vision to rapidly build distributed solar projects that lower utility costs for households and small businesses often left out of traditional energy investment. What they needed was flexible financing that could move at the pace of development and align with the community benefit they strive to deliver.

Our $7.5 million revolving construction loan supports rooftop power purchase agreement projects and community solar installations across multiple states, all owned and operated by Plankton‑Gratitude Yield Co. (PGY), the organization’s solar impact investment fund jointly managed with Gratitude Railroad. Further mirroring Locus values, PGY takes a long-term approach to serving its customers by providing operations and maintenance on every system they build. Locus financing enables the high-impact projects in their robust pipeline to be built sooner, ultimately allowing more customers to see savings on their monthly bills.

Financing energy affordability has an impact ripple effect for the people and places we serve. Reduced energy expenses for families managing tight budgets can mean healthier food on the table or better education outcomes. For small businesses, it often means reinvesting savings into growth and expansion. Resiliency is also strengthened through local energy generation that diversifies how power is produced and delivered, which helps communities better withstand disruptions.

This partnership demonstrates how mission-aligned capital can pair with likeminded values to produce measurable outcomes. By working alongside partners like Plankton Energy, we’re helping advance projects that serve real people and scaling solutions that make energy more accessible, more reliable, and more affordable.
